“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
Where is your treasure? Have you ever really thought about that? Have you ever just sat down and contemplated where your treasure is located? Well, take a couple of minutes today and just think. Search out the things that you hold most dear. Perhaps it’s your family? Maybe your job? A friend? Your self? …God? I’m not just saying this; I really want you to take the time to seek out the most important things in your life…
Jesus tells us that we must be willing to give up anything for Him. In other words, he should be the most important aspect of our lives. He should take ultimate priority. But, the question is…does he? There are a lot of people who claim to ‘have Jesus in their heart’; but, they’re failing to ask: “Is Jesus my treasure?” After all, if he truly resides in a person’s ‘heart’, then surely He will be what they treasure the most. Do you treasure Christ more than all else? Could you go on if you lost your family? Your job? Your friends? Would you still be able to move forward if all you had left was Christ? Jesus says to us: “whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple” (Luke 14:33).
There are a lot of people who claim to ‘know Jesus.’ You may be one of them. You may have considered yourself a Christian for years or decades. You may pray regularly. You may fast every week. You may have led hundreds to Christ. You may shepherd a congregation. But, if Jesus isn’t your treasure; you’re lost. It’s that simple.
I read a fascinating story a couple of years ago about two Christians who lived several hundred years ago. They had such a burden for the lost slaves of the Caribbean that they sold themselves into slavery so that they could minister to a lost and dying people who otherwise might not have heard. What passion for the gospel! What love for Christ! Those are the actions of a person who truly understands that lasting treasure can only be stored in heavenly places. Do we have the same kind of heart and passion as those missionaries? We may not all be called to go to a foreign mission field but we are all called to have the same priority: Jesus Christ.
So, where is your treasure?
